Many women suffer from excessive menstrual bleeding and are not aware of it. During menstruation, estimating the amount of blood is complicated, accurately measuring it is even more difficult. In this text, we would like to point out when the menstrual bleeding is too strong.
Thanks to the guidelines, we know that menstruation is too strong if the blood loss is more than 80 ml per menstrual bleeding (month). In our laboratory, we measured how many regular tampons correspond to 80 ml of blood. We determined that a regular tampon can hold exactly 20 ml of blood; thus, four fully saturated tampons correspond to those 80 ml of blood.
If you are experiencing any of the following during your menstrual bleeding
these are indications of excessive menstrual bleeding.
In this case, you should contact your gynaecologist. With an accurate gynaecological examination, an ultrasound and a possible blood sample, we can determine together the cause of your excessive menstrual bleeding. Excessive menstrual bleeding restricts the quality of life and is treatable.
